Duplicate task manager programs

I then did a Restart - if I remember that was because the disk light was on continuously and I hoped that might fix it. It got as far as the Windows splash screen but did nothing more than show the progress bar constantly refilling, for an hour. So I did a power-off restart which got as far as the Intel splash screen and then just a flashing cursor, again for ages.

I powered off again and booted into safe mode, started Avast and scheduled a boot-time scan, then a restart. Strangely this didn't perform the scan but booted in normal mode, again with the disk light on constantly - it still is, an hour later though the system is working. Nick Toeman said:. Thanks, I've uninstaller that too must have been pre-loaded, I've never used it. I have uninstalled most of what you suggested and done the Adobe Reader update and am in the process of doing the rest.

Since I need to do a restart to complete one of the uninstalls Adobe I think and I noticed your response I have a laptop running I thought I'd report progress in case I have problems again on restart. I have run CCleaner on the registry fairly recently so I'm not sure where they're lurking.

I'll press on - should I do either of the HJT runs again after that? Thanks for the superb help so far, I didn't realise I had so much crap or that I'd turned off automatic Java updates. Adobe's always bothering me with updates so I hadn't realised that was out of date either! All done. Did the Restart to complete the Adobe uninstall. System has stalled at the Windows splash screen again - 54 minutes now I'm using the laptop for this message.

I'm going to have to turn off and on again! OK, back again - on the sick computer. The hard restart asked me to boot in safe mode. I did that, ran CCleaner to tidy up and do its registry clean some rubbish left from the uninstalls, naturally.

Then restarted normally - except the disk light is still on continuously again, I'm not sure whether performance is affected not noticeably for simple stuff, and that's often the case if it hasn't stopped responding altogether. I've seen it among the list of "bloatware" that comes in new computers with a normal single hard drive setup, so I usually get rid of it. They do nothing to improve speed and performance, and what they can do can prove disasterous.

If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal. Thanks again. Let's hope I can restore stability though. Windows Live Messenger has somehow crept back in again I never use it and can't be stopped with msconfig. Perhaps you can help me get rid of that too - it opens the message pane but that doesn't contain a menu bar to turn off the startup request the advice I've found on Google.

Complete my instructions first for cleaning out the temp files, then we'll work on the startup load. Disabling the old built-in Windows Messenger is easy. I'll advise you how to do it. OK, I've done that. I don't think they were too full anyway CCleaner? It's nearly midnight here Flavellee so I'll have to continue in the morning if you have new instructions Thanks and goodnight. I am accessing the web by tether with my cellular phone samsung sch-r on metropcs, Free Internet, Yeah!!

I updated from IE7 about a month ago but only noticed the multiple processes about 10 days ago. Closing window all tabs , results in only 1 process closing. Finally resigned to asking for help, I chose to bother you.

As a matter of fact, it is happening right now and I only have this webpage open, no other windows or tabs. What could be causing it then? Explain that? I just read your article about programs replicating themselves in task manager. My problem is that task manager is replicating itself in that window. And I didnt ask for either one of them. A solution to this madness would be very appreciated. Other sites are dancing around the problem too. Is there no solution?

Am I to continue running my computer on 4 resources, because Internet Explorer is running the remaining 96? I found this forum with a Google search. After reading the first answer I left them alone to let them close on their own. If you delete the one with the largest memory size, it disappears and the others do behind it. They do not, I repeat, not leave on their own like that Thanksgiving house guest…. I am seeing these multiples constantly for firefox and IE and I Never use Start to open a new window.

Good suggestions on how to quickly close these unwelcome multiples would be most appreciated. In IE8, each tab you open you see it as new proccess. That is the problem of that guy. The memory Ram stay Full even if no programs are running on the user end.
